Hola,
My first PDay as a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints! What a time I am having here in CCM. This place is so cool. I have learned so much and have gotten a ton of things thrown at me but I have enjoyed my time. The first week has its ups and downs and felt super long. I have never thought that you could learn so much Spanish in 3 days! I still have so much more to learn though. I have so much to share but not enough time to share it all!
I do not know where to even start it has been super busy. Well I guess I will start with Day 1. I arrived at the CCM around 2 in the afternoon on the 15th. I was with 4 other missionaries on the plane flight from Atlanta. We arrived like 3 hours before the other missionaries and got all settled in and helped the other missionaries come in. The CCM is so beautiful along with Mexico. I keep thinking how excited I am to be out in the field as I look out and see the houses or as I hear the famous taco place play music literally all night long. Dogs are also so loud here. It took a lot of adjusting when I got here especially to sleep. Later Tuesdaynight when we got here we had a devotional with President Bennett and I met my companion Elder McGinley! What a great Elder he is, hilarious as well. Something I also had to adjust to was calling everyone Elder or Hermana. Took a little while haha. Elder McGinley and I are like brothers it is hilarious and we have a lot in common. We have really gotten close.
Wednesday August 16th talk about thrown into the work. I was asked at our meeting in the morning to say the closing prayer in Spanish! This was literally my first day and I was asked to not only speak but PRAY in Spanish. It went pretty good though haha was a pretty short prayer. I love it here though and it is starting to feel like home. Met my teacher for the whole time I am in the CCM Hermano Gonzalez. He is awesome and a great teacher. Speaks really good English too.
Thursday was more class time and we met our district and our branch presidency. I really enjoy my district, we are really close and Elder Ward was called as our district leader.
Friday August 18th was crazy because we taught our first investigator in SPANISH. She is not a true investigator but we still treat her like one. It was crazy because I felt like I did not even know enough words to even like make a complex sentence in Spanish. It was an okay lesson, I think I was speaking Spanglish most the time anyways. My companion is really struggling with the language and I have really tried to make things easier for him. I have been teaching most the lessons with this investigator that we have taught for 6 total days now. We invited her to be baptized and everything.
Sunday August 20th was amazing! My first Sunday in the CCM. Spirit was so strong and almost gave a talk in Spanish for 5 minutes. Kind of wish I did because I love a good challenge and this stay here in the CCM has been so challenging. It has taken so much adjusting.
I have learned so much in the CCM and have met so many good missionaries that I know will be friends forever. My first week was really tough and long, I missed home, family, friends, dog, everything pretty much. It has taken a lot of prayer and help from the Lord as I went through the first week. Something that really hit me while I was going through the first week was a comment that President Bennett made. He quoted something that President Gordon B. Hinckley said that his father said to him while he was serving a mission. He said to Forget Yourself and Go to Work. I have really taken that as a challenge as I have been here. This is not my work this is the Lords work. I have come to build his army and preach the gospel. I love that, that is why I chose to serve a mission. To preach thy gospel and give others the opportunity to come unto him.
Romans Capitulo 8 Versiculo Veintiocho
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.
I love that verse, it is really reassuring to me that I am doing my purpose and if my companion and I work together to complete thy work and love God, we will blessed.
It is crazy to have seen the progress that I have made in the CCM. I write in English and like accidently put the Spanish word. It is crazy, but I love it. It is so cool! I hope everyone is doing well at home and I love you all! I have gotten your package and letters, I really appreciate them! I have an hour every Pday to email.
I love you all!!
